Length: 60 Minutes
Event Type: Virtual

Description

Back to school Fall 2020? No student, teacher, or support staff member is returning to the school they knew of Fall 2019. Every school schedule is different: students attending in-person mornings and remote learning afternoons, attending in-person for full days on Tuesday and Thursday but remote the rest of the time, staying in the classroom for everything including lunch—are some examples of this year’s return. The most innocent moments of sharing your cookies at lunch, working head to head in small groups, playing tag and climbing together on the jungle gym isn’t happening.

Students, parents, teachers, and support staff are all worried. And understandably so. How do you teach students, support their social development, support their emotional development of tolerating frustration, persevering in their work when it gets hard, building skills of attention and concentration, offering physical education to keep their bodies fit, and keeping everyone in masks and healthy is the massive challenge.

About Leslie

I founded Talbot Consulting as a means to partner with extraordinary organizations focused on increasing student access to quality education programming. As Founder and Principal Consultant, I lead a team of amazing consultants, drive project strategy, spearhead client interface, manage our business development efforts, and direct our marketing approach. My 25-plus years of experience conducting research and evaluations, setting and advocating policy, recruiting and coaching talent, and writing about K-16 education guide our consulting activities. My rich background in performing these tasks gives Talbot Consulting a tremendous advantage in the realization of effective school and program designs, startups, and turnarounds; and strategic planning for school and program growth and replication. My passion for this work stems from my belief that every young person, no matter his or her background or zip code, has a right to accessible quality education. I also believe that school and program staff want to provide the best possible educational programming for the students they serve. This is why we do the work that we do!

My career began when I earned a bachelor of arts degree in public policy from Stanford University, and advanced after I received a master of arts degree in sociology and education from Teachers College, Columbia University. In my down time – when I take a break for fun – I’m an avid cyclist and cook.
