How Big Brands Re-Envision DEI
Date: 9/15/20
Time: 4PM EDT
Length: 60 Minutes
Event Type: Virtual
Description
We are honored to speak with Gwendolyn Turner, Head of Equity, Inclusion, Diversity and Talent Engagement for Northwest Permanente, a physician-led, self-governed multi-specialty group practice that provides care to 600,000+ Kaiser Permanente members. We speak about her own career trajectory and the learning lessons she’s accumulated working with prestige and trusted brands such as Pfizer, Kellogg, Kraft Foods and Northwestern University. We discuss the impact of Covid on her industry, how big brands are pivoting their DEI initiatives for what comes next, the consequences of being “too big,” and how compassion, empathy and emotional intelligence are needed now more than ever. We tease out how good corporate citizens will be benchmarked against their peers, and how the new spirit of local, yet global will guide social impact success.

About Gwen
Gwen is a mother to two active boys. She has been lucky to have worked for incredible organizations that support motherhood, and she fully understands how transformative working for mom-friendly companies can be.
Gwen is a workplace engagement thought leader who imagines the ambitious possibilities of transforming work, and has committed herself to making a difference for working moms everywhere. Through Steele and Grace, Gwen provides companies a new vision of inclusivity – one that includes comfortable pumping rooms, generous paid leave, flexible schedules, returnships for mothers returning to the workforce, and rewards achievements – making companies more successful as a result. The critical and necessary work of helping companies remove barriers for mothers and shift toward a mom-friendly culture has become Gwen’s passion and calling.
A graduate of Northwestern University and Southern Illinois University, she has published for leading magazines, has been featured on a number of podcasts, and has spoken about diversity and motherhood at international conferences.
