Event Type: Virtual
Description
September is SUICIDE PREVENTION MONTH. Suicide is the 4th leading cause of death for people 18-65 years old. For every suicide, there are over 25 attempts. The degree of stress experienced by adolescents has reached adult levels. Based on a 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 8.6% of youth in grades 9-12 reported that they had made at least one suicide attempt in the past 12 months. Approximately 4.4 million children aged 3-17 have been diagnosed with anxiety, and 1.9 million 3-17 year-olds have been diagnosed with depression. According to the CDC, suicide was the second leading cause of death for people between 10-34 years old.
Especially because of the added stress and impact of COVID-19, we must raise our awareness about suicide: what we need to know and what we can do.
This week’s guest: Dr. Candida Fink, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
